Green Baby Sneaker Cake

This cake was made for a couple originally from New York who currently live in London, England.  They came into New York for a quick visit to family and friends.  And, they are expecting their first child!  This cake was made for their family barbecue.

They haven’t found out if they are having a boy or a girl but I just felt that the cake needed to be pink.  Maybe I have some intuition?  Only time will tell; or a sonogram I suppose!  I accented the cake with pink, blue and white flowers that I made out of gum paste.

green baby sneakersGum paste baby sneakers!  I chose a pastel green color for these adorable sneakers for two reasons:  it is the expectant mom’s favorite color and gender neutral.  I mentioned that this couple is having a baby, hence the baby sneakers, but where is the touch of London?

union jackThere it is!  I drew this representation of the Union Jack onto small gum paste circles using food coloring markers.  This is just a little reminder of the lucky couple’s home away from home.

UFC (Ultimate Fighting) Engagement Cake

I was asked to make a cake for a bride to surprise her groom at their engagement party.  The bride wanted something elegant but fun.  The groom is a huge Ultimate Fighting fan.  How did I combine the two?

Ultimate Fighting CakeI used a black and white color scheme to keep the cake elegant.  The top of the cake is made to resemble “The Octogon”, where all the fighting takes place.  It is hard to see from this angle, here is a closer look:

Purple Zebra Cake

This cake was made to celebrate a graduation.  Can you guess the graduation girl’s favorite color?  Yup, it’s purple.  This cake was actually inspired by a birthday cake I made a few years ago.  I hate to make the same cake twice, every cake needs to be special and new so I made a few changes and I love the result!

The stars really bring the cake to life.  The bow is handcrafted from gum paste that I tinted purple.  It was then airbrushed with pearl shimmer color.  Here is a closer look.

The cake was vanilla cake filled with chocolate fudge.  Once it was filled and crumb coated, I covered it in white fondant.  I then airbrushed it a glittery purple color.  Finally, I added black fondant zebra stripes.  A message to the graduation girl was added to the silver cake board.
