My baking addiction started at a very young age. Some of my earliest baking memories are from nursery school. I remember baking chocolate cake from scratch; it was the best chocolate cake I have ever tasted. I have to admit though, my mom is definitely the one who inspired me the most. I remember helping her bake chocolate chip cookies and banana bread for the weekends and I was always excited to help with the holiday cookies. Here’s a secret: licking the bowl is still the best part!
While I was in college I worked at a local bakery. I started as an apprentice, doing anything that needed to be done. I piped hundreds of cookies, scooped pounds and pounds of cookie dough and learned to braid challah dough like a pro. I was hooked! I then knew I was ready to do this forever. I attended the French Culinary Institute in NYC to hone my skills, to learn all things pastry. After finishing the pastry program I became the head cake decorator at the local bakery that started it all. After working there for 9 years, it was time to move on.
I got married to my best friend and biggest supporter, Nathan. 2 years later we had a baby boy, Charlie. He is my biggest helper!
My favorite thing to do is develop recipes that are non dairy. I am always on the hunt for recipes that will translate well. I have a few rules when it comes to developing recipes. Never be afraid to experiment; no idea is too crazy to try! Also, never be afraid to experiment on family. My husband and my brother are the two most honest people I know (sometimes a little too honest) and they always tell it to me straight. Thanks for your constant constructive criticism. Keep it coming– I’ll provide the treats!
